The second batch of 10 Highlight Events under the territory-wide "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign will be held starting from tomorrow (January 31) to continue to boost positive energy and encourage the public to appreciate Hong Kong more.
The second batch of 10 Highlight Events also straddles various fields. The events are TWGHs "iRun" - Hong Kong Jockey Club Special Marathon 2016, the International Chinese New Year Parade, the Hong Kong Well-Wishing Festival 2016, the Hong Kong Masters, Shanghai Commercial Pok Oi Cycle for Millions 2016, the Hong Kong Flower Show 2016, the 13th Infrastructure Building Competition for Secondary Schools 2016, the Open Day of Hong Kong Observatory, the Hong Kong Sevens 2016 and Elderly Home Visit.
The dedicated website of the "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign (www.appreciatehk.gov.hk) has been launched to offer further information. Apart from depicting the concepts of the Campaign, the website also has a section featuring the first and second batches of 10 Highlight Events as well as an event calendar listing the details of various activities for the public to browse.
The "Appreciate Hong Kong" public participation campaign carries four meanings. Apart from reflecting an appreciation of the city, it also relates to showing gratitude for Hong Kong, understanding Hong Kong and adding value to Hong Kong. The first batch of 10 Highlight Events commenced in December last year following the launch of the Campaign. They have received an enthusiastic response from the public and benefited various sectors of the community.
The Campaign serves as a platform for co-operation among different sectors and encourages the joint efforts of government departments, the business sector, academia, local organisations, non-governmental organisations and other sectors in the community to organise and launch various activities and projects suitable to be incorporated into the programme schedule. Currently, more than 300 activities organised by organisations or groups in different sectors of the community have been included under the Campaign.
The "Appreciate Hong Kong" Campaign will run for five months. Any programme complementing its themes, irrespective of whether it is an initiative newly devised for the Campaign or a project under planning that may be enriched to suit the Campaign, can be proposed for inclusion in the programme list.
