Latest exhibition at Science Museum showcases new nano-medicine technology
**************************************************

The Hong Kong Science Museum is holding the "Novel Nano-medicine" exhibition at the Science News Corner from today (January 15) to August 31, showcasing the latest nano-medicine technology.

Critical features of ideal drugs include effective cellular uptake and sustained release. While it has been a struggle to incorporate these two characteristics in most of the conventional drugs, nanoparticle carrier-based nano-medicine provides a feasible solution to simultaneously achieve enhanced cellular uptake and sustained drug release. In addition, nanoparticles, as multifunctional carriers, could be modified with certain antibodies on the surface in order to develop targeted medicine.

The latest novel nanoparticle-drug system allows a nanoparticle carrier to self-decompose after the release of inner drugs. Such carriers can be easily excreted from the body without causing any side effects. This system enables a drug's release in a controllable manner in order to elevate the drug efficacy.

Exhibition information is provided by Professor Li Quan and her research team at the Department of Physics in the Faculty of Science of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Professor Lin Ge and her team at the School of Biomedical Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine of the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
