FEHD continues to take stringent action against unlicensed cold store operation

     The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) smashed an unlicensed cold store at Tai Shu Ha Road West in Yuen Long early this morning (August 14) following a raid against another unlicensed cold store in the district last Friday (August 7).

     During the operation, about 16 650 kilograms of chilled poultry with official health certificates were found on the premises. In addition, about 90kg of chilled poultry without official health certificates were disposed of. A 37-year-old man was arrested in the operation and charged with operating an unlicensed cold store.

     The FEHD raided an unlicensed cold store at Ka Lung Road, San Tin, Yuen Long, last Friday. The 59-year-old man arrested in the operation was convicted of operating an unlicensed cold store and sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment at Fanling Magistrates' Courts today.

     Under the Food Business Regulation, the maximum penalty for operating an unlicensed cold store is a fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.

     "We will continue our stringent enforcement action against unlicensed food business to safeguard food safety and public health," an FEHD spokesman said.

     The spokesman appealed to members of the public to report illegal food business activities by calling 1823.
