Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in Chai Wan today (July 27) in which an 88-year-old woman was killed.
At about 10.19am, a light goods vehicle (LGV) driven by a 56-year-old man reportedly knocked down the 88-year-old woman when it reversed in the loading area of Sai Wan Ho Market.
The woman was trapped under the LGV and rescued by firemen. Sustaining serious injuries to the lower part of her body, she was rushed to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in unconscious state where she was certified dead at 10.46am.
The driver was arrested for dangerous driving causing death and is being detained for further enquiries.
Active investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Hong Kong Island are underway.
