SEN to visit France and Italy

     The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, will depart Hong Kong tomorrow (July 5) for duty visit to France and Italy.

     Mr Wong's schedule gets underway in Paris on July 6 (Paris time), when he will meet with the Head of Vivapolis and former Commissioner for Sustainable Development and Director of the Agency for Energy of the French Government, Mrs Michele Pappalardo; Assistant Special Representative of the French government in charge of the negotiations of 2015 Paris Climate Conference (COP-21), Mr Philippe Lacoste; and Policy Advisor to the French President for International Environmental and Climate Change Negotiations, Mrs Marie-Hélène Aubert. Mr Wong will also attend a lunch hosted by the Deputy Mayor of Paris, Mr Patrick Klugman, and a dinner hosted by the President of the Committee for Sustainable Development of the Senate, Mr Harvé Maurey. During the day, he will visit a French enterprise which specialises in energy management and produces rechargeable batteries for electric vehicles.

     On the following day (July 7, Paris time), Mr Wong will proceed to Alès and attend RIVE 2015, the International Meeting on Green Cars. He will also meet with government officials to exchange views on issues relating to sustainable development.

     Mr Wong's three-day visit to Italy starts on July 8. During his stay in Milan, Mr Wong will learn about the city's food waste collection and recycling system and visit an organic waste recycling plant and other waste-to-energy plants. In addition, Mr Wong will also take the opportunity to visit Expo Milano 2015 which is taking place under the theme "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life" and focusing on issues related to environmental sustainability.   

     While he is in Milan, Mr Wong will meet with the Regional Minister for Environment, Energy and Sustainable Development of the Lombardy Region, Mrs Claudia Maria Terzi. He will also officiate at the opening reception of the Hong Kong Martial Arts Film Retrospective organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Brussels.

     Mr Wong will conclude his visit and leave for Hong Kong on July 11 (Milan time).
