Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, on elderly care services after attending the Conference on Understanding of Asbestos Containing Materials cum Guidebook Launching Ceremony today (June 12):
Reporter: How would the Government tackle the issue related to the limited supply of nursing service while ensuring ...?
Secretary for Labour and Welfare: We are tackling the problem of elderly services on all fronts. Primarily, the government policy is actually "community care as the core". Residential care is really a subsidiary, not the main pillar. We are now beefing up our home care support, community care support. At the same time, we will also be increasing the number of (residential) places so that those frail elderly would certainly have a place to live. So we are proceeding on both fronts.
