A five-day large-scale Hong Kong exhibition organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong (GDETO) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region opened today (June 12) at the 3rd China-South Asia Expo in Kunming, Yunnan. With the use of 2-D and 3-D exhibits as well as videos, the exhibition showcases Hong Kong's exciting city landscape, its vibrancy as an international metropolis and the richness of its culture, as well as the enterprising spirit and creativity of the Hong Kong people.
Speaking at the exhibition today, the Director of the GDETO, Mr Albert Tang, said, "The exhibition aims to give the people in Kunming a comprehensive understanding of Hong Kong's latest developments on various fronts, including the economy, trade and business, education, culture, environmental protection and tourism, as well the participation of Hong Kong organisations in charitable activities in the Mainland, so as to foster mutual understanding between the people of the two sides.
"The exhibition will also echo with the 'One Belt, One Road' initiative of the Central Government and promote Hong Kong's role as a 'super-connector'."
The Mainland is pressing ahead with the "One Belt, One Road" initiative. With its distinctive geographical advantages, Yunnan is strategically positioned as the bridgehead connecting South and Southeast Asia. The development potential of trade in goods and services, investment and tourism between Yunnan and neighbouring countries is tremendous.
He said Hong Kong-Yunnan co-operation has a promising future. Hong Kong could act as the investor, middleman and facilitator for Yunnan's development in the "One Belt, One Road" initiative, particularly in areas of financial and professional services, trade, maritime and tourism, to complement its implementation of "attracting investment" and "going global" strategies.
Mr Tang said, "With the successful implementation of 'One Country, Two Systems' and the Basic Law, and with the Mainland as our hinterland, Hong Kong continues to enhance its status as an international financial, trade, shipping and tourism centre.
"As Asia's world city, Hong Kong is well known for its business-friendly environment, free flow of capital, free trade and free market economy and diversified talent pool, accompanied by world-class infrastructure, a sound and independent legal system and a low-tax regime. With the above advantages, Hong Kong is a popular choice as the regional base for the international business community to manage business in the Asia-Pacific region. It also serves as an ideal platform for Mainland companies to tap into overseas markets and 'go global'."
He added, "Enterprises in Yunnan are encouraged to set up offices and raise capital in Hong Kong. In doing so, they can learn from the experience of the world's leading corporations in Hong Kong and further expand their business internationally."
The China-South Asia Expo is a major international expo co-organised by the Ministry of Commerce and the Yunnan Provincial People's Government together with the commerce-related authorities of the South Asian countries. It is an important platform for mutual co-operation between the Mainland and South Asian countries.
The GDETO, through the Hong Kong exhibition, is showcasing Hong Kong's favourable business environment and, in particular, Hong Kong's creative industries including design, architecture and comics and animation to South Asian countries to promote Hong Kong's image as Asia's creative capital.
The exhibition, with active participation of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, the Hong Kong Productivity Council and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, is being held at Hall 4 of the Kunming Dianchi International Convention and Exhibition Center in Kunming, Yunnan, from June 12 to 16, during which the Hong Kong Police Band will give multiple performances. Members of the public are welcome to visit the exhibition.
