The award-winning Shaanxi Acrobatic Troupe will present "Legend of the Silk Road", combining breathtaking acrobatic feats, stunning dance and glamourous costumes and stage design, in July to open the summer festival International Arts Carnival (IAC).
The programme showcases the superb skills of the performers in more than 20 stunning acrobatic feats such as aerial silks, meteors, the Russian bar and swinging high crutches, drawing the audience to an epic adventure along the ancient Silk Road and crossing the perilous Loulan desert, the awe-inspiring Dunhuang and the mesmerising Persia before reaching the Roman Empire.
The production has been well received, with people.cn hailing it as "a magnificent display of dazzling scenes linking ancient and modern times".
Shaanxi Acrobatic Troupe was the recipient of the Gold Medal in the 2005 International Circus Festival at Latina in Italy and the Gold Lion Prize in the 6th All China Acrobatics Competition.
Founded in 1957, the Troupe is the most extensively toured performing arts company of its province. Focusing on acrobatics and magic shows, the Troupe has represented China and Shaanxi Province in many overseas tours since the 1980s, with as many as 1,600 performances in America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
