******************************************************

The Government today (June 12) announced that the Chief Executive has appointed Mr Stanley Lau Chin-ho to succeed Dr Clement Chen Cheng-jen as Chairman of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) for two years starting from July 1, 2015.

A veteran industrialist, Mr Lau is currently the Chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries. He has a long record of public and community service in the industry and labour sectors, including as the Chairman of the Vetting Committee of the General Support Programme under the Innovation and Technology Fund and as a member of the Economic Development Commission, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Labour Advisory Board.

The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, welcomed the appointment of Mr Lau as the new Chairman of the HKPC. He said that the HKPC would benefit from Mr Lau's strong industrial background and experience in public service.

Mr So also thanked the outgoing Chairman, Dr Chen, for his exemplary service as the HKPC Chairman since July 2009. Under his capable leadership, the HKPC has made significant improvements in strengthening its support for the local industries, in particular small and medium enterprises.

"Dr Chen led the HKPC to become the industries' most preferred productivity partner. During his term, the HKPC has strengthened its corporate governance and expanded its services to bring innovative solutions and new technologies to the local industries to help them move up the value chain and grasp new market opportunities. We are most grateful to Dr Chen for his strategic guidance and counsel," Mr So said.

The HKPC was established in 1967 to promote increased productivity in Hong Kong. Its role is to provide integrated support to innovative and growth-oriented Hong Kong firms across the value chain. The HKPC's main sectoral focus is Hong Kong's manufacturing and related service activities, while its main geographical focus is Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta.
