The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:
Members of the Legislative Council (LegCo) held meetings today (June 11) with members of the Kwai Tsing District Council (DC) and the Kowloon City DC respectively in Conference Room 1 and Conference Room 3 of the LegCo Complex to discuss and exchange views on matters of mutual interest.
During the meeting with the Kwai Tsing DC, LegCo Members discussed and exchanged views with DC members on a number of issues: follow-up on projects of hillside escalator links and elevator systems; nuisance caused by the squatter structures and the barbecue sites in Kau Wah Keng; improving the public transport service in Northeast Kwai Chung; housing planning issues of Tsing Yi; and increasing parking spaces for heavy vehicles in the district. The meeting was convened by Mr Charles Mok and attended by Mr Tam Yiu-chung, Mr Wong Ting-kwong, Ms Starry Lee, Mr Chan Kin-por, Mr Ip Kwok-him, Mr Michael Tien, Mr Steven Ho, Mr Chan Han-pan and Ms Alice Mak.
As for the meeting with the Kowloon City DC, LegCo Members discussed and exchanged views with DC members on the following issues: community problems arising from illegal parking of coaches; request for adopting a flexible and pragmatic approach to handle the Fire Safety Directions issued to old buildings, taking their actual situation into account; request for establishing Kowloon City Heritage Trail; request for rezoning the land in Kai Tak Development Area for public housing; and request for adding a swimming pool or water sports facilities at the Multi-purpose Sports Complex at Kai Tak. The meeting was convened by Dr Helena Wong and attended by Ms Starry Lee, Dr Priscilla Leung, Mr Cheung Kwok-che, Mr Ip Kwok-him, Mr Paul Tse, Mr Frankie Yick, Mr Yiu Si-wing, Dr Chiang Lai-wan, Dr Lo Wai-kwok and Mr Tony Tse.
