Members of the Legislative Council (LegCo) held meetings today (May 28) with members of the Eastern District Council (DC) and the Tsuen Wan DC respectively in Conference Room 1 and Conference Room 2 of the LegCo Complex to discuss and exchange views on matters of mutual interest.
During the meeting with the Eastern DC, LegCo Members discussed and exchanged views with DC members on a number of issues: difficulties encountered by old buildings' owners in complying with requirements of the Fire Safety (Buildings) Ordinance; strengthening the regulation of and support for large-scale maintenance projects for private buildings; shortage of parking spaces for large vehicles; and impact of noise of running Mass Transit Railway trains on residents. The meeting was convened by Dr Kenneth Chan and attended by Mr Wong Kwok-hing, Ms Starry Lee, Mr Ip Kwok-him, Mr Paul Tse, Mr Alan Leong, Mr Ma Fung-kwok, Mr Kwok Wai-keung, Mr Sin Chung-kai, Mr Christopher Chung and Mr Tony Tse.
As for the meeting with the Tsuen Wan DC, LegCo Members discussed and exchanged views with DC members on the following issues: construction of covered footbridges/pedestrian links in coastal areas from Riviera Gardens and Belvedere Garden to West Rail Tsuen Wan West Station; occupation of metered parking spaces by recyclers for business operations; Ecological Park (Tso Kung Tam Valley, Tsuen Wan) Project; provision of concessionary fare of $2 applicable to bus service in Ma Wan for the elderly and eligible persons with disabilities; expediting the implementation of advance works of construction of cycle track between Tsuen Wan and Tuen Mun; and expediting the allocation of government resources to address the chronic seawater odour problem at the bayside of Tsuen Wan Bay. The meeting was convened by Mr Michael Tien and attended by Mr Tam Yiu-chung, Mr Tommy Cheung, Ms Starry Lee, Mr Ip Kwok-him, Mr Ng Leung-sing, Mr Wu Chi-wai, Mr Chan Han-pan, Mr Leung Che-cheung and Ms Alice Mak.
