Following is the transcript of remarks by the Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, on public consultation on the future development of the electricity market after attending a public event today (May 8):
Reporter: Any update on the implementation of the plan for the future of Hong Kong electricity market? Is there any new information?
Secretary for the Environment: I would like to add that we have a three-month public consultation on the future development of our electricity market. Now we have just passed the first month. I would like to urge the public to provide more feedback about this consultation. Basically, there are five key questions within this consultation. The first two questions are about the objectives of the energy market. How are they being achieved? What are the gaps? What are the rooms for improvement? How is it related to competition? The third question is, if we are going to repeat the current arrangement through the SOC (Scheme of Control), what are the areas that we would like to improve in terms of the environment or in terms of price control, so that we can provide more comments. The last two questions are about the support to more renewable energy applications in Hong Kong and also the demand-side management, that is, energy saving. So basically, these five questions are related to our future energy market and we would like the public to provide more feedback. After collecting the opinions, we would like to have the advice and pave the way forward for our market control.
