Hong Kong Customs yesterday (March 3) seized about 4.16 kilogrammes of suspected methamphetamine with a market value of about $1.67 million at Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point.
Customs officers intercepted an incoming female passenger at Lok Ma Chau Spur Line Control Point at around noon yesterday and found the suspected drug concealed inside two paper boxes carried by her. The woman was arrested at the scene. Upon follow-up investigation, Customs officers arrested a man suspected to be involved in the case in Kowloon Tong.
Aged 21 and 40 respectively, the arrested woman and man both claimed to be unemployed. They were charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear at Fanling Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (March 5).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
