Local authors to broaden readers' horizons in "Meet-the-Authors 2015"
**********************************************

Reading opens windows through which readers can explore the world. The Hong Kong Public Libraries (HKPL) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department will hold the "Meet-the-Authors 2015" talk series, with a theme of "Reading - To Broaden Our Horizons", from March to November. Nineteen authors will guide readers to see the world through literary works, broadening the horizons of attendees and giving them inspiration.

The talks will be held at various public libraries and are divided into three series, namely "Read to Write", "Read from Hong Kong" and "Read the World". Young people and other interested parties are welcome to attend. All the talks will be conducted in Cantonese and admission is free.

Ten talks will be held from March to May, with speakers including authors Ms Human Ip, Mr Lwoavie Ray and Ms Chan Wai; the Director of the University of Hong Kong School of Professional and Continuing Education, Professor Lee Chack-fan; the Deputy President of the Hong Kong Liberal Studies Association, Mr Wong Ka-leung; editor and author Ms Chow Suk-ping; the Chief Editorial Director of Oxford University Press, Mr Perry Lam; the Deputy Editor of the South China Morning Post, Ms Tammy Tam; travel author Ms Chow Chung-wah; and author and photographer Ms Kam Ling.

Living is the source of inspiration for creation. Knowledge and experiences in life often inspire writers to express their true inner worlds through literary creation. In the series entitled "Read to Write", Ms Ip will introduce the legendary landscapes in Hong Kong and various living creatures in the countryside on March 14, Mr Ray will share his study and work experiences to encourage readers to pursue their dreams on March 21, and Ms Chan will enlighten the audience on how to improve one's quality of life through good reading time on May 23.

Given the bustling lifestyle in Hong Kong, people often overlook the beauty in their surroundings. In the series entitled "Read from Hong Kong", Professor Lee will use prominent figures in ancient and contemporary history as examples and show how reading helped them to pave their way to success on April 25; Mr Wong, who is familiar with Hong Kong history, will look into local antiquities on May 16 and discuss the relationship between conservation and economic development in Hong Kong; and on May 30, Ms Chow Suk-ping will guide readers to appreciate and analyse creative literature in relation to the scenery, people and significant incidents in Hong Kong.

Travelling enables us to gain new depth and vision through experiencing different cultures. In the series entitled "Read the World", four authors with rich travelling experience will share their journeys of creation. Mr Lam will explore the vivid pleasure in relaxed reading on March 28, and Ms Tam will help participants understand our country and people by making reference to Lin Yutang's famous work "My Country and My People" on April 11. Ms Chow Chung-wah believes that a spectacular life should not be defined by the boundaries of places that one has visited. On April 18, she will share her life attitude of travelling and encourage readers to follow their curiosity and discover the magnificence in life. Photography enthusiast Ms Kam will take readers to Tanzania and Sri Lanka with her writings and pictures and ponder respect for lives on May 9.

Programme details in Chinese are available at the HKPL website (www.hkpl.gov.hk/mta) and on posters displayed in libraries.
