The delegation of the Legislative Council (LegCo) began its visit in Berlin, the capital of Germany yesterday (March 2).
On the first day of visit, the delegation met the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of the Interior (the Ministry), Dr Ole Schröder. He briefed delegation members on the work of the Ministry and the role of the parliamentary state secretary. He also shared his experience with delegation members on how his position enabled him to strengthen the working relationship between the Ministry and the Parliament of Germany.
The delegation then held a discussion session with the Head of Division for Election Law and Political Party Law of the Ministry, Dr Henner Jörg Boehl, and learnt about the political and electoral systems of Germany.
Delegation members closed the first day of visit by visiting the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Berlin and joining an evening programme upon the invitation by the Office.
The delegation is led by Ms Emily Lau (Leader) and Mr Tommy Cheung (Deputy Leader). Other members include Mr Lee Cheuk-yan, Mr Chan Hak-kan, Mr Paul Tse, Mr Kenneth Leung, Mr Dennis Kwok, Mr Ip Kin-yuen and Mr Tang Ka-piu.
The delegation will continue its visit in Berlin today (March 3) and will meet with Members of the Parliament and representatives of the Federal Foreign Office.
