Two large-scale exhibitions entitled "Treasures from Tsarskoye Selo, Residence of the Russian Monarchs" and "Dunhuang - Untold Tales, Untold Riches" now being held by museums under the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) will draw to a close on March 16. Members of the public who have yet to see the precious relics on display should take the opportunity to visit the exhibitions in the coming two weeks.
A spokesperson for the LCSD today (March 3) noted that both exhibitions have received an impressive response from the public, with more than 100 000 attendances respectively since they opened last year.
The "Treasures from Tsarskoye Selo, Residence of the Russian Monarchs" exhibition, which opened at the Hong Kong Museum of History on October 29 last year, is the largest of its kind ever staged in Hong Kong. Hundreds of stunning exhibits selected from the collections of the Tsarskoye Selo State Museum-Preserve of Russia are on display including paintings, costumes, porcelain, works of art and a spectacular carriage. They give a clearer picture of the history and culture of Russia and, in particular, evidence of long-lasting exchanges between Russia and China.
Also the largest of its kind ever held in Hong Kong is the "Dunhuang - Untold Tales, Untold Riches" exhibition, which opened to the public on November 28 at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, introducing numerous aspects of Dunhuang culture including religion, art, history and folklore through some 120 sets of exhibits. The exhibits include significant replica caves, a 13 metre-long replica painted stucco statue of the Nirvana Buddha, Buddhist script items and copies of the cave murals.
