The delegation of the Legislative Council (LegCo) will depart for Germany tonight (March 1) to conduct a six-day parliamentary visit to Germany in response to an invitation from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.
The visit aims at establishing and reinforcing link with the German legislature while keeping the Federal Parliament of Germany as well as community and business leaders of Germany abreast of the latest developments in Hong Kong, and sustaining their interest in Hong Kong affairs. The delegation will also take this opportunity to gain an insight of the political and electoral system of Germany, as well as the functions and operation of its bicameral legislature.
As proposed by the German Government, the delegation will visit Berlin, the capital of Germany, and Bremen, a federal state in Germany. In Berlin, the delegation will meet with the Vice-President and members of the German Bundestag (lower House of the Federal Parliament of Germany); Members of the German-Chinese Parliamentary Friendship Group; Members of the Committee for the Scrutiny of Elections, Immunity and the Rules of Procedure; representatives of the Federal Ministry of the Interior, and the State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office.
In Bremen, the delegation will meet with, among others, the President of the Bremen Parliament; parliamentary managers of the parties represented in the Bremen Parliament; representatives of the Bremen State Chancellery; the Head of the Foreign Trade and International Economic Relations Office to the Senator for Economic Affairs, Labour and Ports; the Desk Officer for Mobility Management to the Senator for the Environment, Construction and Transport; the Deputy Head of the Regional Centre for Civic Education; the Commissioner for Political Education to the Senator for Education and Research; academics from the University of Bremen and Jacobs University; and a representative of the Bremen Statistical Office.
The delegation is led by Ms Emily Lau (Leader) and Mr Tommy Cheung (Deputy Leader). Other members include Mr Lee Cheuk-yan, Mr Chan Hak-kan, Mr Paul Tse, Mr Kenneth Leung, Mr Dennis Kwok, Mr Ip Kin-yuen and Mr Tang Ka-piu.
