The Showcase of Harmonious Chinese Clothes Fashion and Award Presentation Ceremony was successfully held today (February 28) at the College of International Education in the Hong Kong Baptist University Shek Mun Campus. The event aimed to promote Chinese clothing culture and foster the social inclusion of persons with disabilities and others through designing clothes with Chinese features for people with disabilities.
The event attracted more than 130 people from all walks of life to participate, including students, local figures, women, the elderly and persons with disabilities from various non-profit organisations. The participants had joined two workshops earlier to learn about the cultural essence of Chinese clothing and designed clothes for persons with disabilities under the guidance of instructors, which helped them to understand more about the special clothing needs of people with disabilities, and facilitated better communication and mutual care between persons with disabilities and other people.
To further promote the message of fostering social inclusion for persons with disabilities and others, the participants had taken snapshots with people with disabilities modelling the clothes they designed at scenic spots in Sha Tin. The clothes were showcased at a catwalk show today and were given to the models as gifts for the Chinese New Year.
Officiating at today's ceremony were the Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung; the Chairman of the Sha Tin District Council (STDC), Mr Ho Hau-cheung; the District Officer (Sha Tin), Ms Cora Ho; the Vice-chairman of the STDC and the Honorary Advisor of the Sha Tin District National Education Committee (STDNEC), Mr Pang Cheung-wai; the Chairman of the STDNEC, Mr Pun Kwok-shan; the Executive Director of the Neighbourhood Advice-Action Council (NAAC), Mr Tung Chi-fat; the Director of the Troels H Povlsen Care Apparel Centre of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Associate Professor of the Institute of Textiles and Clothing of PolyU, Dr Frency Ng; and the Convener of the Working Group for the event, Mr Wong Kwai-yau.
The event was organised by the STDNEC, co-organised by Harmony Manor of the NAAC and the Troels H Povlsen Care Apparel Centre of PolyU, assisted by the Sha Tin District Office and sponsored by the STDC.
