The Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) published today (June 16) the June 2014 issue of the Hong Kong Monthly Digest of Statistics (HKMDS).
Apart from providing up-to-date statistics, this issue also contains two feature articles entitled "The Real Estate Sector in Hong Kong" and "Use of Language in Hong Kong in 2012".
"The Real Estate Sector in Hong Kong"
The performance of the real estate sector, in particular real estate development and leasing as well as real estate brokerage and agency, was largely underpinned by the developments in the local property market. On the other hand, the growth of the real estate maintenance management industry tended to be sustained by the progressive increase in housing stock and the growing demand for quality property management services. This feature article analyses the industry structure and performance of the real estate sector in Hong Kong during the period of 2005 to 2012.

"Use of Language in Hong Kong in 2012"
The government has been organising and supporting various programmes and activities to create a more motivating language environment to help Hong Kong students and workforce enhance their Chinese and English language competencies. C&SD conducted the Thematic Household Survey on use of language in Hong Kong during February to May 2012 to collect information on Hong Kong persons aged 6 to 65 on the use of spoken and written Chinese and English. This feature article gives a brief account of the major findings of the survey.

Published in bilingual form, the HKMDS is a compact volume of official statistics containing about 140 tables. It collects up-to-date statistical series on various aspects of the social and economic situation of Hong Kong.
