The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, will leave Hong Kong late on May 10 for a duty visit to Stockholm, Sweden and Brussels, Belgium. During his visit, Mr Leung will learn more about the economic situation and the development of innovation and technology in the two places. He will also meet with political and business leaders to discuss Hong Kong's latest developments and foster closer economic and trade ties between Hong Kong and the two places.
While in Stockholm, Mr Leung will meet political and business leaders of Sweden, including the Minister for Finance, Mr Anders Borg; the Minister for Information Technology and Energy, Ms Anna-Karin Hatt; the Mayor of Stockholm, Mr Sten Nordin; the Governor of Sveriges Riksbank (central bank of Sweden), Mr Stefan Ingves; and senior management of local enterprises.
Mr Leung will also visit respected academic institutions in Sweden, namely the Karolinska Institutet and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology. He will also visit the local railway network in Stockholm, as well as Kista Science City and an urban development project called Stockholm Royal Seaport. He will address a dinner co-organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London, Hong Kong Trade Development Council and Royal Sweden Hong Kong Business Council, and will also attend a roundtable dinner hosted by the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences.
The Chairman and senior management of the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation will join some of the programmes for the visit to Stockholm.
On May 14, Mr Leung will leave for Brussels. While in Brussels, he will call on political leaders including the President of the European Commission, Mr José Manuel Barroso; and the President of the European Council, Mr Herman Van Rompuy. He will also meet with HM King Philippe. Mr Leung will hold discussion with local leaders from the business and financial sectors.
Mr Leung will speak at a breakfast meeting of the European Business Summit, and at a luncheon with representatives of the Belgium-Hong Kong Society and other business leaders in Belgium. He will also meet Hong Kong people living in Belgium to keep abreast of their living conditions.
Accompanying Mr Leung on the visit will be the Director of the Chief Executive's Office, Mr Edward Yau; the Director of Information Services, Mr Patrick Nip; the Private Secretary to the Chief Executive, Mr Carlson Chan; and the Assistant Director (Media), Mr Nick Au Yeung.
Mr Leung will arrive back in Hong Kong on the afternoon of May 16. During his absence, the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs Carrie Lam, will be the Acting Chief Executive.
