FEHD orders food factory in Tsuen Wan to suspend business for three weeks
**********************************************************

The Director of Food and Environmental Hygiene has ordered a food factory in Tsuen Wan to suspend business for 21 days, as the operator repeatedly breached the Food Business Regulation (FBR) by illegally extending the business area and allowing staff to prepare open food on the pavement in front of the food premises.

The food factory, located at portion C of shop No. 4 on the ground floor of On Foo Building at No. 31 Tsuen Hing Path, was ordered to suspend business from today (May 4) to May 24.

"Between May 2012 and March last year, a total of six convictions for the breaches were recorded against the food establishment," a spokesman for the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) said.

"A total fine of $4,500 was levied by the court and 75 demerit points were registered against the licensee under the department's demerit points system. The contraventions resulted in the cancellation of the licence," the spokesman said.

"The licensee lodged an appeal to the Licensing Appeals Board and the Municipal Services Appeals Board, which decided to suspend the licence for 21 days in place of cancellation of the licence," he added.

The spokesman reminded licensees of food premises to comply with the FBR, or their licences could be suspended or cancelled.

Licensed food premises are required to exhibit a sign, at a conspicuous place near the main entrance, indicating that the premises have been licensed. A list of licensed food premises is available on the FEHD's website (www.fehd.gov.hk/english/licensing/licence-type.html).
