************************************************************

Twelve pop bands from a youth servicing agency, a drug treatment and rehabilitation centre, counselling centres for psychotropic substance abusers and youth outreaching social work teams staged an exciting anti-drug band show called the "Music and Band Peer Platform 2014" at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Drug InfoCentre (DIC) today (May 3) to showcase their music talents, and to share their experience in band performance.

Co-organised by the Narcotics Division of the Security Bureau, the Action Committee Against Narcotics (ACAN) and the DIC, the "Music and Band Peer Platform 2014" aims to provide an opportunity for youngsters to share their music with friends and families, to disseminate anti-drug messages to young people in collaboration with various non-governmental organisations, and to encourage young people to develop healthy interests and stay away from drugs.

This is the fourth year that the "Music and Band Peer Platform" has been organised. To better equip participants in staging their performances, the organisers made a special arrangement this year and invited members of "Tai Chi" band Patrick Lui and Ernest Lau to give two master classes on singing and guitar skills on March 15 and 22 respectively. Patrick Lui, Ernest Lau and another member of the band Joey Tang also joined today's event to support the bands and give their professional opinions on their performances.

Performing bands at the show included Beno from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong's Enlighten Centre; Leohart and Pendular from the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups; New Life Band from the Christian New Life Association; The Way from the Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service's Cheer Lutheran Centre; Heartists from the Hong Kong Children & Youth Services' Ma On Shan Youth Outreaching Social Work Team; Chemical, Famous and Opps from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong's North District Youth Outreaching Social Work Team; Dream Locus from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong's Tin Shui Wai Youth Outreaching Social Work Team; Unique from the Hong Kong Children & Youth Services' Tai Po District Youth Outreaching Social Work Team and Szetilzation from the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups' Youth Crime Prevention Centre.

Officiating guests at the event included the Permanent Secretary for Security, Mr Joshua Law; the Chairman of the ACAN Sub-committee on Preventive Education and Publicity, Dr Tik Chi-yuen; and the Commissioner for Narcotics, Mrs Erika Hui. Other guests included members of the ACAN and the Governing Committee of the Beat Drugs Fund Association.
