Hong Kong Customs yesterday (April 30) seized about 2.2 kilogrammes of suspected methamphetamine (ice) at Lok Ma Chau Control Point. The market value of the drugs was about $990,000.
Customs officers yesterday found four bags of suspected methamphetamine, weighing in a total of 2.2 kilogrammes, underneath the passenger seats of an incoming coach during vehicle clearance. An incoming male was arrested during follow up investigation with 13 grammes of suspected methamphetamine seized from him. Later, apparatuses used for inhalation of dangerous drugs and 5 grammes of suspected methamphetamine were located in his Yau Tong residence.
The arrestee, aged 61, claimed to be a transportation worker. He will be charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and appear at Fanling Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (May 2).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
