The Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, visited Southern District today (April 23) to see for himself the businesses of three social enterprises and hospitality training provided by the Vocational Training Council (VTC).
Mr So first visited the Enterprise Vegetable and Fruit Processing and Supply Service run by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs). The organisation provides vegetable and fruit processing, delivery and wholesale services to restaurants, residential homes and schools in the community.
He then dropped by the iBakery workshop and the CookEasy kitchen. CookEasy is a social enterprise established by the TWGHs in collaboration with the Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited. It prepares fresh and healthy food packs for households and corporate customers.
Mr So was glad to see that the three social enterprises provide an inclusive environment for persons with disabilities to work with able-bodied counterparts, thereby helping them to realise their potential and facilitating their integration into society. He was also pleased to see the closer working relationship between social enterprises and the business community.
Afterwards, Mr So visited the VTC's Hospitality Industry Training and Development Centre in Pok Fu Lam. He was briefed on the training programmes provided by the centre as he toured its facilities, including the training spa, the training hotel and the wine laboratory. He encouraged the students to apply what they have learnt in their future careers and contribute to the hotel and hospitality-related industries in Hong Kong.
Before concluding his visit, Mr So met with members of the Southern District Council to exchange views on district matters and policy issues under his portfolio.
