Police officers issued a total of 612 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 89 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.
The operation concluded at 7pm today (December 10) and a total of 288 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black spots on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 440 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 172 for other traffic offences.
Twenty-five pedestrians and 96 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Statistics revealed that a total of 2,759 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to November this year, of which 881 cases with pedestrians injured. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 46.2 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
