The Census and Statistics Department (C&SD) published today (November 15) the November 2013 issue of the Hong Kong Monthly Digest of Statistics (HKMDS).
Apart from providing up-to-date statistics, this issue also contains two feature articles entitled "Changes in Consumption Choices of Households with All Members Aged 35 or below" and "Port Cargo Statistics, 2007 to 2012".
"Changes in Consumption Choices of Households with All Members Aged 35 or below"
This feature article compares the expenditure profile of households with all members aged 35 or below (referred to as "young households") in Hong Kong with that of other households in general based on the findings of the Household Expenditure Survey conducted by C&SD from October 2009 to September 2010. The changes over time in the consumption patterns of young households are also discussed.

"Port Cargo Statistics, 2007 to 2012"
The port of Hong Kong is a major hub port of the Asia-Pacific region. Hong Kong's port cargo throughput increased from 245 million tonnes in 2007 to 269 million tonnes in 2012, representing an average annual growth rate of 1.9%. The port cargo movements between Hong Kong and the mainland of China (the Mainland) accounted for 40.5% of Hong Kong's port cargo throughput in 2012. About 73.3% of the port cargo movements between Hong Kong and the Mainland were in the Pearl River Delta region. This feature article provides a detailed analysis of the port cargo statistics of Hong Kong from 2007 to 2012.
