The Government, having consulted the Betting and Lotteries Commission (the Commission), has decided to renew the licence for football betting of HKJC Football Betting Limited for four years with effect from July 18, 2013, a spokesman for the Home Affairs Bureau said today (July 17).
The Licensee is required to observe the licensing conditions at all times and the prevailing Code of Practice for the Conduct of Football Betting. The Commission will continue to advise the Secretary for Home Affairs as the licensing authority, amongst other things, on compliance with the licensing conditions by the Licensee.
In addition, starting from the renewed licence period, the Licensee is advised not to conduct betting on any football match that takes place in Hong Kong. This is to promote a betting-free and healthy environment for the sport in Hong Kong.
Under the Betting Duty Ordinance, the Secretary for Home Affairs is the licensing authority for conducting football betting in Hong Kong. The first licence for football betting was issued in 2003 and renewed in 2008.
