The Chief Executive, Mr C Y Leung, and some 870 guests attended the Chief Executive's Night of the Hong Kong Police Night for the Chest 2012 held at the Hong Kong Police College today (November 23). They were presented with a dazzling display of music, action and skill, all for the benefit of charity.
Jointly hosted by the Hong Kong Police and The Community Chest of Hong Kong, the Police Night aimed to raise funds for the needy as well as to demonstrate Force's social responsibility and commitment to engage and serve the community.
The event comprised Chief Executive's Night and Commissioner of Police's Night held tomorrow, which would be presided over by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Tsang Wai-hung.
For each performance, the campus was transformed into a brilliantly lit stage filled with sound, light and action. The audience was treated to a 70-minute programme of golden melodies performed by the Hong Kong Police Band and the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force Band, and exciting displays by the Police Dog Unit and the elite counter-terrorist Special Duties Unit, and the Police Tactical Unit.
A choir of ethnic minority children from the Yaumati Kaifong Association School appeared in national dress to serenade the audience, and new police recruits showed off their discipline and marching skills with a display of silent drill.
Mr Leung met guests at the Gala Dinner held at the Officers' Mess of the Police College after the show. On the next day, Mr Tsang will host a reception to thank community leaders attending the event.
Prior to the two evening programmes, some 900 members of underprivileged groups, children and helpers from the Children's Cancer Foundation, police officers injured on duty and their families and families of Force members participating in the show were offered free admission to a special Preview Night held yesterday.
The event, fully sponsored by the Bank of China Charitable Foundation, had raised nearly $4 million. All proceeds would go the Community Chest.
