Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances 2012 will be staged this Sunday (November 18) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza from 2.30pm to 6.30pm, showcasing a series of entertainment programmes including ethnic performances, a costume parade and exhibitions as well as workshops for the public to get in touch with the cultures of different Asian countries. Admission to all programmes is free.
With the theme of "Feast of the Arts", the event this year has the largest number of participating countries, with representatives from nine places: Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Japan, Nepal, the Philippines, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Thailand. Apart from showcasing ethnic dances and songs of the various Asian groups, the event will also include Japanese karate, Pakistani comedy and a Sri Lankan costume parade. In addition, a local group will perform Chinese Yue opera.
Members of the public may also join in the fun of fringe activities such as an Indonesian dance workshop, or view the traditional handicrafts of Bangladesh, Nepal, Indonesia and Sri Lanka. There will also be regional food demonstrations, as well as batik and handicraft demonstrations for the public to experience the vibrancy of different Asian cultures. Beautiful costumes from different Asian countries will also be exhibited to add colour to the event.
The outdoor programme Asian Ethnic Cultural Performances 2012 is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and supported by the Consulate General of Bangladesh, Hong Kong; the Consulate General of India, Hong Kong; the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Hong Kong; the Consulate-General of Japan in Hong Kong; the Consulate General of Nepal, Hong Kong; the Consulate General of Pakistan, Hong Kong; the Consulate General of the Philippines, Hong Kong; the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Hong Kong; and the Consulate of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Hong Kong.
