A spokesperson for the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) announced today (November 14) that its Museum Pass has been redesigned with a new logo created by internationally renowned designer Dr Kan Tai-keung. In conceiving the new design, Dr Kan used the brand colours of the LCSD's four major museums to form the letter M for "museum", and added lines from different directions to represent the continuous flow of visitors.
The spokesperson said, "Museum Pass holders can enjoy unlimited admission to the seven LCSD museums that levy admission fees and enjoy an array of other benefits, including special privileges offered by Ocean Park Hong Kong and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
"We have different types of Museum Pass to cater for the needs of different people. Families can apply for the Museum Annual Family Pass priced at $200, which covers up to four people with kinship. Individuals can apply for either the Museum Annual Individual Pass at $100 or the Museum Half-year Individual Pass at $50. Meanwhile, full-time students, people with disabilities and senior citizens aged 60 or above can enjoy half-price concessionary offers when applying for the Museum Annual or Half-year Individual Passes."
Among the 14 museums managed by the LCSD are seven that levy admission fees. The LCSD Museum Pass allows holders to enjoy unlimited admission to these seven museums during the valid period, namely the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong Museum of History, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Hong Kong Science Museum, Hong Kong Space Museum, Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence and the Dr Sun Yat-sen Museum. Museum Pass holders are not required to pay admission fees to visit the permanent exhibitions or most of the thematic exhibitions staged at these museums, except for programmes at the Stanley Ho Space Theatre of the Hong Kong Space Museum and a few special exhibitions.
The Museum Pass also entitles holders to an array of related benefits, such as a 10 percent discount for cash purchase of selected items at various museum gift shops and a 10 percent discount for participation in extension activities organised by the LCSD museums.
Furthermore, Museum Annual and Half-year Pass holders can enjoy a 10 percent discount when purchasing Ocean Park's SmartFun Annual Pass. From now to August 31, 2013, LCSD Museum Annual Pass holders will also enjoy discounts of $50, $40 and $30 off published prices for the purchase of adult, child/student and senior Magic Access tickets for Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.
The spokesperson encouraged museum visitors to take this opportunity to purchase a Museum Pass as early as possible so that they can enjoy free visits to the museums' superb exhibitions and enjoy the other exciting offers. The major exhibition "The Majesty of All Under Heaven: The Eternal Realm of China's First Emperor" currently on show at the Hong Kong Museum of History runs until November 26. Coming up are a number of spectacular exhibitions, such as "Song, Yuan and Ming Chinese Paintings and Calligraphy from Osaka Municipal Museum of Art" and "Andy Warhol: 15 Minutes Eternal", which will open in November and December respectively at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, and the "Julius Caesar: Military Genius and Mighty Machines", opening in December at the Hong Kong Science Museum.
