The Secretary for Transport and Housing, Professor Anthony Cheung Bing-leung, today (November 8) visited the Housing Authority (HA)'s Interim Housing (IH) Estates at Long Bin IH in Yuen Long, Po Tin IH in Tuen Mun and Shek Lei IH in Kwai Chung.
Professor Cheung was briefed on the management and occupancy situation of these three IH estates, and noted that the management of these estates is the same as public rental housing (PRH).
"IH is a transient type of accommodation offered to those who become homeless because of natural disasters, fire, clearance operations, emergencies and so on," said Professor Cheung.
"The IH stand-by units are needed as they provide a safety net for society," he said.
Long Bin IH consists of eight low-rise blocks built with a proprietary prefabricated building system. Po Tin IH takes up flats in nine high-rise blocks at Po Tin Estate, while Shek Lei IH blocks are converted from old PRH high-rise blocks. All three IH estates provide a total of about 4,600 flats with self-contained facilities.
