Police officers issued a total of 616 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 40 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a one-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island today (September 24).
The operation concluded at 7pm and a total of 284 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 480 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 136 for other traffic offences.
Statistics revealed that a total of 1,997 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to August this year, of which 648 pedestrians were involved. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 49.1 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
