The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, San Francisco hosted a reception in honor of the Hong Kong Ballet in Aspen, Colorado, on August 2 (San Francisco time). In welcoming the Hong Kong Ballet as well as about a hundred special guests from the arts and culture community in Aspen, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, San Francisco, Mr. Jeff Leung said that Hong Kong Ballet, one of Asia﷿s leading classical ballet companies, is becoming a world-class institution with an identity that fully reflects the unique vitality of Hong Kong.
䩕As many of you know, Hong Kong is famous for its stunning skyline. This dynamic and cosmopolitan city is also known for being an international hub for trade, finance, logistics, as well as a dining and shopping paradise. The city has also made great strides in becoming Asia﷿s creative capital.
䩕Indeed, Hong Kong boasts a lively arts and culture scene. Throughout the year, we feature local and international performers, players and artists in various venues in the city,蒅 he said.
With a Government upfront endowment of US$ 2.8 billion, a world-class integrated arts and cultural district, based on Foster + Partners﷿ 䩕City Park﷿ concept, is set to take shape on a prime 40-hectare waterfront site in West Kowloon. Scheduled for completion in phases starting from 2014-15, the West Kowloon Cultural District will cater to various art forms with a good mix of arts and cultural facilities. 䩕We will be able to present more local and internationally renowned performing groups in Hong Kong,蒅Mr Leung said.
The Hong Kong Ballet is one of the nine major performing arts group in Hong Kong. Their performance in Colorado opens with Black on Black, originally created for The Hong Kong Ballet in 2011. The choreographer, Kinsun Chan incorporates his intrigue for body language and gestures into this ballet of power, passion and surprise. Also included in the performance is Peter Quanz﷿s Luminous, an emotionally-charged piece, dripping with sensuality. The program completes with Nils Christe﷿s Symphony in Three Movements. Christe﷿s ballet is inspired by the complex concepts connected with war.
