Police officers issued a total of 723 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 29 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a one-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.
The operation concluded at 7pm today (June 18) and a total of 275 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 540 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 183 for other traffic offences.
Statistics revealed that a total of 1276 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to May this year, of which 438 pedestrians were involved. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 48.4 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
