The Government announced today (May 28) that Dr Constance Chan Hon-yee, the Controller, Centre for Food Safety, will succeed Dr Lam Ping-yan as the Director of Health on June 13, 2012. Dr Lam will proceed on pre-retirement leave on the same day after 34 years of service with the Government.
Commenting on Dr Chan's appointment, the Secretary for the Civil Service, Miss Denise Yue, said, "Dr Chan has proven leadership and administrative skills, as well as profound professional knowledge and experience. I am confident that she will lead the Department of Health to meet the challenges ahead."
On the retirement of Dr Lam, Miss Yue said, "Dr Lam has served with zeal and commitment in the civil service throughout the years. As the Director of Health, Dr Lam has made sustained efforts in leading the department to safeguard the health of the community through promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative services. We sincerely wish him a happy retirement."

Dr Lam Ping-yan

Aged 60, Dr Lam joined the Government as a Medical and Health Officer in July 1978. He was promoted to Senior Medical and Health Officer in January 1984 and to Principal Medical and Health Officer in July 1990. He was promoted to Assistant Director of Health in May 1994 and to Deputy Director of Health in June 1996. He has been the Director of Health since August 2003.
Dr Constance Chan Hon-yee

Aged 50, Dr Chan joined the Government as a Medical and Health Officer in February 1988. She was promoted to Senior Medical and Health Officer in November 1993, to Principal Medical and Health Officer in July 1996 and to Assistant Director of Health in August 2000. She took up the Controller, Centre for Food Safety, post in October 2007.
