Operation against public light bus traffic offences (with photos)

     Police yesterday (May 22) conducted a territory-wide operation codenamed "Leaf-Flyer" against public light bus (PLB) drivers for various traffic offences, aiming to enforce the new legislative amendment and enhance the safety of PLB.

     Police officers, together with Motor Vehicle Examiner, implemented on-spot examination at various locations in the territory. Plainclothes officers were also deployed on board to observe the driving manner of PLB drivers.

     During the operation, Police have checked a total of 91 PLBs and issued 58 fixed penalty tickets and 32 summonses against PLB drivers for various traffic offences, including failing to display a PLB driver identity plate, failing to display maximum speed limit sign, speeding and failing to comply with traffic signs.

     In addition, two PLBs were detained for not maintaining a speed limiter in good and efficient working order or using a speed limiter with a damaged seal while one PLB was towed for examination on construction and mechanical defects (fuel leakage).

     Police also issued 11 summonses to PLB passengers for not fastening their seatbelts.

     Police will continue to mount operations to enhance road safety.
