EPD to hold exhibitions on idling engine ban (with photo)
*********************************************************

The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) will hold a series of roving exhibitions on the idling engine prohibition, with the first to be held at Tai Po Market MTR Station for four days starting from tomorrow (May 24). Members of the public are welcome to visit.

Using display panels and a game, the exhibition will present the Motor Vehicle Idling (Fixed Penalty) Ordinance (the Ordinance), and illustrate how switching engines off can improve roadside air quality and reduce environmental nuisance. Visitors who participate in the game will receive a souvenir. The roving exhibitions will be staged in May and June at various venues. Details of the exhibitions in May are as follows:

Date         Venue           Time
----         -----           ----
May 24       Tai Po Market   noon to 8pm
to 27        MTR Station

May 31       Sha Tin Town    9am to 6pm
to June 3    Hall Plaza

With the arrival of summer, in addition to hosting the roving exhibitions, Environmental Protection Inspectors and Traffic Wardens will continue to strengthen roadside publicity and joint enforcement actions. So far, 166 activities have been conducted, covering multiple idling engine black spots on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon and the New Territories. Law enforcement staff will continue to mount these activities in various locations to remind drivers to comply with the idling engine ban.
