Members of the public are welcome to visit the Self-employment Experience Day "Think Big@SPRING" organised by Youth Employment Start (Y.E.S.) of the Labour Department (LD) on May 18 and 19.
This event aims at allowing business members of Y.E.S. to have a taste of doing retail business for free in booths of shopping malls, gain valuable self-employment experience and apply what they have learnt in Y.E.S. to the real business world.
As it is the first Self-employment Experience Day of the series in 2012, a launch ceremony will be held at 2.30pm on May 19. The Senior Labour Officer (Youth Employment) of the LD, Mrs Louisa Poon, will officiate at the ceremony. Famous singer Mr Hubert Wu and renowned artist Mr Derek Wong have been invited to perform onstage and give encouragement to young entrepreneurs.
Y.E.S. received 15 business proposals from its members for this event. A total of 12 groups of applicants were chosen to join the event after screening and selection interviews. To better equip participants to run their business smoothly on event days and consolidate their self-employment experience obtained from the event, Y.E.S. and a business consultant are working together to provide a series of through-train support activities, including pre-event consultation, on-the-spot support services and post-event evaluation.
Apart from offering opportunities to Y.E.S. business members to run their retail stalls at the mall, a series of career talks, self-employment experience sharing sessions and singing and dancing performances will be organised.
Y.E.S. will also set up a counter onsite to introduce its one-stop advisory and support services on employment and self-employment offered to young people aged between 15 and 29. A series of services will be provided on the spot, including preliminary registration of Y.E.S. members, production of resume photos and assessment of career interest.
The retail stalls will operate at the foyer and display corridor on the first floor of Tsuen Wan Plaza from noon to 9pm on May 18 and from 11.30am to 8.30pm on May 19.
