CSSA caseload for December 2011

     The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in December 2011 showed a drop of 948 cases compared to November, representing a decrease of 0.3 per cent, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (January 18).

     The total CSSA caseload at the end of December 2011 stood at 276 710 (see attached table), with a total of 443 322 recipients.

     Analysed by case nature, low-earnings cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 1.6 per cent to 12 319 cases, while unemployment cases showed a decrease of 1.4 per cent to 26 859 cases.

     Single parent cases recorded a decrease of 0.8 per cent to 32 860 cases and ill-health cases also showed a decrease of 0.2 per cent to 25 168 cases.

     Permanent disability registered a slight decrease of 0.1 per cent to 18 449 cases while old age cases remained steady at 153 950 cases.
