Police officers issued a total of 742 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 38 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during on operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.
The operation concluded at 7pm today (January 17) and a total of 325 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 626 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 116 for other traffic offences.
Twenty pedestrians and 15 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Statistics revealed that a total of 3,038 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in 2011, of which 1,018 pedestrians were involved. Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 52.8 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
