The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:
The Hospital Authority (HA) Chairman, Mr Anthony Wu, welcomes the decision of the Medical Council of Hong Kong today (January 4) to approve the application for practice with limited registration of nine doctors who have applied to work in public hospitals under the HA.
䩕We also appreciate the support of the Council which I am sure is in the best interest of the general public as well as beneficial to the patients of public hospitals,蒅 added Mr Wu.
While noting that the approval of the Medical Council would definitely help relieve the acute manpower shortage in those pressurised clinical departments, HA Chief Executive, Dr Leung Pak-yin, stressed that HA would continue with the local recruitment drives for full-time and part-time doctors in addition to the various measures to retain public doctors.
HA will proceed with the human resources procedures to arrange for the nine doctors (one in Emergency Medicine, two in Internal Medicine, six in Anaesthesia) to report duties as early as possible. They will work at Tseung Kwan O Hospital, United Christian Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital and Queen Mary Hospital.
HA will also proceed with processing the second batch of applications according to the established screening mechanism. As a prerequisite, all the applicants have passed a specialist training examination overseas which is comparable to the Intermediate Examinations of the constituent Colleges of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, and with three years or above post-internship experience. They all have license to practise in their respective countries.
