Following is a speech by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mr Gregory So, at the Disney ImagiNations Hong Kong Award Ceremony today (December 12):
Andrew (Kam), distinguished guests, finalist teams, ladies and gentlemen,
Good afternoon.
I am very delighted to join you today at the Disney ImagiNations Hong Kong Award Ceremony.
First of all, I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to all finalist teams of the Disney ImagiNations Hong Kong Design Competition. The project exhibition we have just seen demonstrates your great work in designing a unique and creative experience for guests visiting the Hong Kong Disneyland.
More than half a century ago, Mr Walt Disney created Disneyland with his wonderful imagination, and since then, its magical experience has welcomed generations of guests from all over the world. Today, we are still happily embraced by its fascinating attractions and characters.
Creative industries are an important pillar of our economy. To promote Hong Kong as Asia's creative capital, we are committed to fostering an environment conducive to facilitating the development of our creative industries. This competition is very meaningful in not only adding creative novelty to the Hong Kong Disneyland, but also cultivating our local creative talents. I wish to commend the Hong Kong Disneyland for introducing this event to Hong Kong, and I would also like to express my appreciation for all the inspiring designs created by our young talents.
We have just celebrated the opening of Toy Story Land, and we are looking forward to seeing two other new themed areas in the near future. These new areas are the realisation of Disney's imagination, and I hope some day I will be able to personally visit the creative experiences imagined by our young talents.
Thank you very much.
