A rare chance to enjoy traditional Korean music in Hong Kong
************************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department's "Nan Lian Garden Chinese Music Series" will present a programme of Korean Traditional Music Concerts in January, featuring performances by 12 musicians of the Korean Traditional Instrumental Ensemble produced by the Korean Zither Musicians' Association.

The concert will feature music performed with Korean traditional instruments that originated from Chinese musical instruments, including the gayageum (a 12-stringed plucked zither), the geomun-go (a six-stringed zither, played with a bamboo plectrum) and the janggu (an hourglass-shaped drum). This enriching programme will feature traditional music including the geomun-go solo "Geomun-go Sanjo-" by Han Gap-deuk School, the gayageum solo "Gayageum Sanjo-" by Kim Juk-pa School, the gayageum contemporary music ensemble work "The Clock Tower" and the geomun-go duet "Work Place", as well as other pieces.

The members of the Korean Zither Musicians' Association also teach at the major universities in Korea. The group was formed in 1993 to promote Korean zither music and has performed on a variety of concert stages at home and abroad. In 1993, the group organised a joint recital and seminar to which they invited zither musicians from China and Japan. Since 1994 the group has performed annually at major cities in China, Canada, Thailand, the United Kingdom, Vietnam, Singapore, Russia and the United States.
