Public invited to vote in 12th Meritorious Websites Contest
***********************************************************

     Online voting for the 2011 Meritorious Websites Contest has begun. Members of the public are welcome to cast their votes for healthy websites at www.merit.gov.hk until December 23, 2011.

     The contest is jointly organised by the Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority (TELA), the Education Bureau, the Committee on Home-School Co-operation, the Hong Kong Internet Service Providers Association and Radio Television Hong Kong.  Under the theme "Surf Smartly. Spend Our Time Wisely", the contest aims to encourage young people to pay more visits to healthy websites and to recognise the contribution made by those who create such websites.  Since its inception 12 years ago, the contest has been well received, attracting nominations and votes from more than 20 000 students every year.

     This year, TELA received a total of 97 website nominations and shortlisted 40 for public voting.  These websites cover a wide range of topics including traditional Chinese culture, youth information, current affairs, medical knowledge and television education.

     Websites obtaining the highest combined scores from public voting and a professional adjudication panel will be chosen as meritorious websites.  The selection criteria are set out as follows:

(i) practicality of the website;
(ii) enhancement of knowledge and fostering of a healthy mind;
(iii) attractiveness of layout; and
(iv) accessibility for disabled persons.

     All voters will automatically enter a lucky draw in which department store cash coupons worth $1,000 (one prize) and $300 (10 prizes) will be given out.  Results of the contest will be announced in March 2012.

     Apart from casting their votes, members of the public are also welcome to participate in online games and to nominate "Apps" for the "Healthy Mobile Phone / Tablet PC Apps Nomination Programme".  "Apps" nominations should be submitted on or before October 31, 2011.
