Six recycling companies awarded leases at EcoPark Phase 2
*********************************************************

Six recycling companies have been awarded leases at the EcoPark Phase 2 lots by the Environmental Protection Department (EPD).

A spokesman for the EPD said, "The tendering process drew a very good response with a total of 64 tenders received from 27 companies. EcoPark Phases 1 and 2, the Government's key initiative for supporting the local environmental and recycling industry, cater to a wide spectrum of the recycling industry for common recyclable materials collected in Hong Kong. This helps the development of the local recycling industry and is in line with the Government's continued effort in waste reduction policies."

The two recycling centres run by non-profit organisations process waste plastics and waste electrical appliances.

At present, the EcoPark has provided more than 190 jobs and it is estimated that about 750 jobs would be created upon full commissioning of the EcoPark.

The EcoPark is one of the Government's key measures for supporting the local environmental industry. It provides long-term land at affordable rent and is equipped with ready land and marine access, electrical and water supplies, sewerage and telecommunication connections and more to assist and encourage the environmental industry to invest in advanced and cost-effective technologies to process local recyclable materials.
