Police officers issued a total of 427 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 73 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a one-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.
The operation concluded at 7pm today (August 23) and a total of 179 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 305 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 122 for other traffic offences.
Twenty-three pedestrians and 81 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.
Statistics revealed that a total of 1,723 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to July this year, of which 578 pedestrians were involved.
Among the traffic accidents with pedestrians injured, 53.5 per cent was attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
