Police respect press freedom and the media's right of reporting, and have always been striving hard to facilitate the media to conduct reporting activities.
Police also have the responsibility to ensure the safety of political dignitaries during their visits in Hong Kong. Based on risk assessment, Police formulate and carry out related security operations, which include implementation of control measures inside the security zones. The primary objective is to ensure the safety of the visiting political dignitaries.
In order to facilitate media coverage of the visits, Police also set up designated press areas inside the security zones at some venues. All journalists entering the security zones are therefore required to go through security checks. Police believe that the arrangement can facilitate media reporting as well as achieve the objective of the security operations.
As the implementation of security operation will inevitably affect the public to a certain extent, Police will try to keep the impact to the minimum and appeal to the public for their understanding.
Police will conduct a review after each major operation and will seriously consider and follow up on the views raised by different parties.
Under the principle of not affecting Police operations, the Force will continue to provide all possible assistance to the media and maintain close communication with them to strengthen cooperation. Regarding Hong Kong Journalists Association﷿s request for a meeting to discuss the related matters, Police will make the appropriate arrangement.
