************************************************************

Police are investigating a theft from construction site and police open fire case in which a police officer fired a shot in Tseung Kwan O last night (June 3).

About 11.20pm, Police received report that some suspicious persons were found at a construction site on Tong Tak Street. Officers of the Task Force of Tseung Kwan O Division attended the scene for investigation and found four men stealing electric wires in a meter room.

Police officers thus took arrest action but the men resisted fiercely. The men struggled with police officers and one of them attacked officers with a four-feet long iron pipe. A police sergeant gave verbal warning at the man but was ignored. To avoid the man endangering the safety of police officers, the sergeant fired one shot at him.

Initial investigation suggested that the shot did not hit anyone.

Police arrested two Mainland men, aged 23 and 29, at scene and are now wanting two men in their 20s who fled.

A police officer was slightly injured during the incident. He was sent to Tseung Kwan O Hospital and was discharged after receiving medical treatment.

Active investigations by the District Crime Squad of Kwun Tong are proceeding.
