The Education Bureau (EDB) announced today (March 30) that a total of 200 secondary schools would join the Voluntary Optimisation of Class Structure Scheme in the 2011/12 school year (school list at Annex).
The Secretary for Education, Mr Michael Suen, said: "We are pleased that the scheme has received enthusiastic support from schools. The scheme will not only relieve the impact of a declining student population and stabilise the education ecology, but will also help participating schools create more learning and teaching space. Schools can thus make effective use of manpower to facilitate the implementation of the New Senior Secondary Academic Structure.
"We are grateful to the education sector and various stakeholders for supporting the scheme. It shows the school sector is committed to fulfilling its social responsibility in addressing the issue of a declining student population through concerted efforts," he said.
A total of 202 schools submitted their applications to join the Voluntary Optimisation of Class Structure Scheme after the EDB introduced enhanced provisions for the scheme.
