Public hospitals announce latest Human Swine Influenza cases

The following is issued on behalf of the Hospital Authority:

     In response to the influenza situation in Hong Kong, the Hospital Authority (HA), in close collaboration with the Centre for Health Protection, has activated the enhanced monitoring system for severe influenza patients staying in the intensive care units of public hospitals.  The HA spokesman today (February 25) announced that there were two newly confirmed Human Swine Influenza (HSI) cases, including a 55-year-old female patient at Kwong Wah Hospital and a 53-year-old male patient at North District Hospital.  They were prescribed with Tamiflu and are now in critical condition.

     Furthermore, three HSI patients succumbed due to continued deterioration of clinical condition, including two female patients (aged 47 and 74 respectively) at Tuen Mun Hospital, and an 18-year-old female patient at Kwong Wah Hospital.  The hospitals expressed deep condolences to the patients' family.

     As at 2pm today, there were 20 influenza patients staying in the intensive care units of public hospitals, including the above newly confirmed HSI cases.
